LA
TOSCANA RISTORANTE
LA TOSCANA RISTORANTE offers a taste of olde world Italian charm mixed with a
little history. Residing in what once was a hotel in downtown Milton, owner,
Tony De Gaetano’s most resent renovation restored the interior to its 1847s
splendor. Beautifully preserved architectural design wood beams and window
frames, and the almost medieval metal stone walls all set the back drop for
wonderful fixtures and artwork featured by Galactic Art Glass. The two main
dining rooms seat 35, plus seating for 14 in the self-contained smoking room.
La Toscana’s menu features an array of specials created daily in addition
to their menu. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive. We were seated
right away, and shortly after were served a sampling of the delicacies to come
in addition to the fresh bread, served as in Italy with oil and balsamic
vinegar. For appetizers we decided on caesar salad – crisp and delicious with
creamy garlic dressing, real slivers of cheese, and the mesclun greens with a
lovely raspberry vinaigrette – an almost creamy texture with a tangy contrast
of raspberries.
For our main course, we chose the Linguini with seasonal vegetables in a red
sauce, and the Veal Scaloppini with asparagus, tomatoes, and melted mozzarella
cheese accompanied by baby red potatoes, grilled vegetables and a thick and
savory wine flavoured red sauce which I thoroughly enjoyed. The grilled peppers,
mushrooms and zucchinis in the pasta were prepared wonderfully, and full of
flavor. This entrée is the perfect choice for less adventurous diners.
For dessert, the Crème Brule – sinfully creamy, and Ice Cream Crepes –
vanilla ice cream wrapped into warm crepes and drizzled with tangy raspberries,
orange liqueur, and chocolate. Including wine, appetizers, entrées and dessert,
meals averaged $40. per person. Entrées range from $9.95 to $25.95. La Toscana
Ristorante is open for lunch and diner. Located in Milton, 165 Main Street East.
