We have had inquiries why the name "Tackaberry Times"? Tackaberry Times looks back to a time when trips to town were an event, neighbours knew neighbours and depended on each other in times of need. In that era, arenas were few and far between. Frozen outdoor ponds served as skating rinks. Many a great figure skater and hockey player braved the cold and winds to hone their skills. Skates at the turn of the last century comprised of a set of steel blades with leather straps – these were then strapped around the skater’s shoes. Mr. Tackaberry developed a boot with allowance to attach a skate blade. That invention resulted in the skates of today. Tackaberry Times is to remember skating on a frozen pond, bright blue skies, cold wind, good friends laughing. |
