There's something about Christmas in the
historic core of Georgetown
Whether it’s the snow, a nip in the air, or the parade running through the
heart of town, thoughts of Christmas past are rekindled. Amidst the modern
frenzy of shop till you drop, there is a certain charm on Main Street. Shop
windows beckon with twinkling lights, people wrap up warm for a stroll and the
restaurants and eateries are filled with friends and families gathered to enjoy
convivial company at a time of sharing.
Recently, I heard Georgetown described as Pleasantville by someone from out
of town. People move to Georgetown to enjoy the feeling of small-town life –
which is at its best in our unspoilt Main Street. It is delightful to see the
properties in the Downtown are now filled. Businesses are enjoying growth thanks
to increased patronage by long time residents and newcomers alike.
If you haven’t visited Downtown Georgetown in a while, rest assured there is
so much more to enjoy. A dozen new stores, a handful of new eateries, all the
favourites of years gone by and an optimism for the future based on the present
and the past. No matter how cold it is outside, you can be assured of a warm
welcome in Downtown Georgetown.
