Did you know...
The
abbreviation of Xmas for Christmas is not irreligious. The first letter of the
word Christ in Greek is chi, which is identical to our "X". Xmas was originally
an ecclesiastical abbreviation that was used in tables and charts.
In 1818
Austrian priest Joseph Mohr was told the day before Christmas that the church
organ was broken and would not be repaired in time for Christmas Eve. He was
saddened by this and not being able to think of Christmas without music, he
wrote a carol that could be sung by choir to guitar music. He sat down and wrote
three stanzas. Later that night the people in the little Austrian Church sang "Stille
Nacht" (Silent Night) for the first time.
Santa is
even-tempered. Santa does not hit children over the head who kick him. Santa
uses the term folks rather than Mommy and Daddy because of all the broken homes.
Santa does not have a three-martini lunch. Santa does not borrow money from
store employees. Santa wears a good deodorant.
